12 జ్యోతిర్లింగా ( ద్వాదశ జ్యోతిలింగాలు) క్షేత్రాలలో  శ్రీ మహాకాళేశ్వర ఆలయం  క్షేత్రం  ఒకటి మరియు శక్తి పీఠం.  శ్రీ మహాకాళేశ్వర ఆలయం మధ్యప్రదేశ్ లోని ఉజ్జైన్ లో ఉంది. మహా శక్తివంతమైన క్షేత్రం గా చేబుతారు. ద్వాదశ జ్యోతిలింగా క్షేత్రాలలో దక్షిణం వైపుకు తిరిగి ఉన్న క్షేత్రం మహాకాలేశ్వరమే, ఇక్కడ శివలింగాన్ని దక్షిణ మూర్తి అని కూడా పిలుస్తారు. 

మహాకాళేశ్వర ఆలయం లో మూడు శివలింగాలు మూడంతస్థులలో ఉంటాయి. మహాకాళేశ్వర లింగం మొదటి అంతస్తు లోను తరువాత ఓంకార లింగం , నాగేంద్ర స్వరూపమైన శివలింగం మూడవ అంతస్తు లోను ఉంటుంది.

ఆశ్చర్యకరమైన విషయం ఏమిటంటే.. సంతవత్సరానికి   ఒకసారి  ‘పర్జన్యానుష్ఠానం’ వర్షాకాలం ప్రారంభానికి ముందర చేస్తారు.. ఈ అనుష్టానం పూర్తికాగానే వర్షం వస్తుంటుంది. ఎప్పడినుంచో ఈ తంతు జరుగుతూనే ఉంది. 

మహాకలేశ్వరాలయం లో తప్పకుండా చూడవలసింది:

భస్మహరతి ఈ హారతి ఉదయం నలుగు గంటలకు ( 4 am ) ఇస్తారు. మామోలుగా ఇస్తే మనం ప్రత్యేకంగా చెప్పుకొనేది ఎం ఉంటుంది. ఇక్కడ శివయ్యకు రెండు రకాలుగా విభూదితో అభిషేకం చేస్తారు.. ఒకటి ఆవు పేడతో చేసిన ( ఆవు పిడకలు ) విభూదిని ఒక పలుచని గుడ్డలో గట్టి మూటను  లింగం పైన ఉంచుతారు, మరోక మూటతో ఈ విభూది మూటను కొడతారు .. అప్పుడు శివలింగం పైనే కాకుండా చుట్టూ విభూది గాల్లోకి లేచి ఒక కొన్ని  క్షణాలు శివయ్యను విభూదితో కప్పినట్టుగా ఉంటుండగా మంత్రాలూ చదువుతూంటే .. శంఖాలు, భేరీలు పెద్ద పెద్ద మృదంగాలు మ్రోగిస్తారు .. ఓం నమః శివాయ.. ఓం నమః శివాయ అంటూ వినిపిస్తుంటే.. మనం  ఒక అలౌకికమైన స్థితిలోకి  వెళ్ళిపోతాం. 

రెండవది శ్మశానం లోంచి భస్మాన్ని అర్చకులు తీస్కుని వస్తారు..ఆ భస్మ పాత్రని అందరికి ఇస్తారు ఆ భస్మం తో స్వామి వారికి చుట్టూ కూర్చుని  అభిక్షేకం చేస్తారు. 

ఈ హరతికి ఆడవాళ్ళకు ప్రవేశం లేదు, ఒక పదిమంది నాగ సాధువులు మాత్రమే గర్భగుడిలో ఉండి పూజచేస్తారు.. భక్తులు మండపం లో ఉండి తిలకిస్తారు. 

ఈ హారతి సమయం లో స్వామి చాల అందంగా కనిపిస్తాడు.

Kal Bhairava Temple is the temple of Lord Bhairava situated in Bhairavagarh of Ujjain and gives a sense of peace after visiting. It is 8 km away from the main city. 

Sandipani Ashram :

Sandipani Ashram is the most ancient and one of the popular ashrams of Ujjain. It is named after the great Saint or Maharishi Sandipani. Within the Ashram there are temples which are dedicated to Lord Shiva and this temple is different from all other Lord Shiva’s temple because in this temple Nandi is standing in front of Lord Shiva.

Chardham Temple :

One of the most beautiful temples of Ujjain is Char Dham Temple. The reason of its popularity is that, it is a place where you can feel of visiting all the four Chardhams – Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. It is located behind the Mahakaleshwar temple.

Shipra River: 

Ramghat is 2 km from Ujjain Railway station and 56 km from Indore. Ramghat has a vital importance in the history of Shipra River and Ujjain city. It will take a time of 5-10 minutes to reach to reach there from station.During the Kumbh Mela or Sihasth which held after every 12 years, people use this ghat for bathing as they believe it is the sanctified ghat of the river. 

Harsiddhi Temple: 

Harsiddhi Temple is one of the most famous shakti peeth among all the shakti peeths of our country. It is located in Ujjain near Shipra River. The idol of Mata Harshiddhi is wonderful and beautiful. It gives a Devotional emotion after vision of God. In temple there are 3 Goddess one on top of another. The 3 Goddess are Annapurna, Mahalakshni and Mahasarswati

It is approximately 1 km from Ujjain railway station and it is a few steps away from the Mahakaleshwar temple.Bade Ganeshji Temple is one of the famous temples of Ujjain. It is known by the name Bade Ganeshji because in temple there is a big artistic idol of Ganeshji in the temple.
