దీపం ఎందుకు వెలిగించాలి ?
భారతీయ సంప్రదాయంలో ప్రతి ఇంటిలోని దేవుని మందిరంలో దీపం వెలిగించాలి. కొందరు పొద్దున వెలిగిస్తే మరి కొందరు పొద్దున, సాయంత్రం కూడా వెలిగిస్తారు. కొన్ని గృహాల్లో అఖండదీపారాధన వుంటుంది.
దీపంతో వెలుగు ఏర్పడుతుంది. చీకటిలో దీపం మనకు దారిని చూపించి ధైర్యాన్ని ఇస్తుంది. దీపమనేది ఒక జ్ఞానంలాంటిది. అజ్ఞానాన్ని, చీకట్లను పారదోలుతుంది. మనలోని అహాన్ని దీపపు వెలుగుల్లో ఆవిరి చేయాలి. దీపం ఎప్పుడూ పైకి వెలుగుతూ వుంటుంది. దీపశిఖ స్ఫూర్తిగా మనం కూడా జ్ఞానపు వెలుగులను అందుకుంటూ ఉన్నతశిఖరాలను అందుకోవాలన్నదే దీప పరమార్థం"
యజ్ఞయాగాది క్రతువులు చేసేటప్పుడు సమిధలతో ఆహుతులు సమర్పిస్తాం. అక్కడ జ్వాల పెరిగితే పాలు కలిపిన నీళ్లు చిలకరించి నియత్రిస్తారు. ఆకాశం నుంచి వాయువు.. వాయువు నుంచి అగ్ని.. అగ్ని నుంచి నీరు.. నీటి నుంచి భూమి..భూమిపైన ఓషధుల సాయంతో అన్నరూపంగా ఉన్న ఈ పంచతత్వాలను స్వీకరించి మనిషి ఏర్పడ్డాడు. అగ్ని పెరగడానికి గాలి సాయపడుతుంది. అగ్ని చిన్నదిగా ఉంటే అదే గాలి దాన్ని ఆర్పివేస్తుంది. మనలోని జ్ఞానాగ్నికి దీపం ప్రతీక.
అది నిరంతరం వెలుగుతూనే ఉండాలి. అందుకే దీపం ఆరిపోతే అపశకునం అంటారు. గాలిలో దీపం పెట్టి దేవుడా నీదే భారం అనుకోకూడదు అని పెద్దవాళ్లు చెబుతుంటారు. దాన్ని రక్షించుకోవడం కూడా మన బాధ్యతే. అయితే అనుకోకుండా జరిగే వాటిని ఎవరూ ఆపలేరు. ఒకవేళ పూజలో దీపారాధన గాలికి కొండెక్కితే.. నూనె, ఒత్తులు మార్చి మళ్లీ వెలిగించుకోవచ్చు. తప్పేం లేదు. అది అపశకునం కూడా కాదు.
దీపాన్ని వెలిగించి ఈ శ్లోకాన్ని జపించాలి :
దీపజ్యోతి పరబ్రహ్మ దీప పర్వ తమోపహహ
దీపేన సాధ్యతేసరం సంధ్యాదీపో నమోస్తు

Showing Deeparadhana in Temples:
In the hindu temples the Hindu gods are shown Deeparadhana. This particular system is followed from the olden days itself. But most of the people don't know the exact reason behind why they show deeparadhana to the idol of the god in the temples.
